SHOOT was a Shuttle payload bay experiment that demonstrated the ability to transfer liquid Helium from a source tank to a receiving tank without the use of a mechanical pump. Liquid transfers were achieved by fostering pressurization of LHe in the source tank. Following the pressurization of the Helium, the liquid was transferred to the receiver tank (at temperature) with zero boiloff. The experiment consisted of 27 successful transfers between dewars. The success of the experiment reinforced to the spaceflight community that the efficient transfer of liquid between storage tanks in microgravity conditions is highly feasible. The methodologies used are highly applicable to in space refueling and/or depot fuel transfer operations.
