Following the premature loss of the Astro-H/Hitomi mission (thirty-eight days after launch), in the pursuit of science NASA and JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency) agreed to do a rebuild mission. This time the system would be named X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM). The science for the mission had the same focus as that of Astro-H (i.e., Extreme Gravity Fields, Black Hole Spin Phenomena and Neutron Star Structures using Soft X-ray Spectrum detectors. The Cryogenics and Fluids Branch Sub-Kelvin team designed, fabricated, assembled, and delivered the Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerator (ADR) system to the XRISM project. XRISM successfully launched on September 7, 2023. After a month in flight, the Detectors successfully reached their operational temperature of 50 milli-Kelvin and have been performing flawlessly since.
