Customized Materials Testing for Goddard’s Flight

Materials Engineering laboratories provides projects with onsite access to over 20 staffed laboratories supporting materials testing and analysis and specific subject matter expertise in materials and processes (M&P) topics including, but not limited to, metallurgy, composites, failure analysis, tribology, non-destructive evaluation, polymer processing, adhesive bonding, space environment effects of materials, etc.  The flight project Materials and Processes Engineers (MPEs) provide M&P discipline expertise, management, and leadership to ETD’s product for development leads (PDLs) and project stakeholders, including project managers, project scientists, and S&MA, as well as external mission partners

Failure Analysis and Non-destructive Evaluation – Materials Engineering capabilities in failure analysis and non-destructive evaluation allow for interrogation of flight hardware during critical stages of flight hardware development and provide actionable solutions to problems encountered during space environment simulation testing
