Advanced Sample Storage Solutions that Preserve Pristine Conditions for Cryogenic Space Samples

Proper storage of sample media (solid/liquid/vapor) retrieved from celestial bodies is critical in the determination of constituents, and their relative proportions present at the time of sampling. For samples taken in environments under cryogenic temperature conditions, mitigation of heat leak enables the ability to maintain samples in pristine conditions. Sample storage containers and/or flight system environments are a unique engineering capability within ETD’s Instrument System and Technology Division.

Sample Acquisition and Storage capabilities are managed by ETD’s Instrument System and Technology Division (ISTD). Contact ISTD for more information.

ABOUT ETD

The Engineering & Technology Directorate at Goddard designs missions, builds satellites and instruments, operates and controls spacecrafts, and acquires/distributes data to the world-wide science community. ETD data products are used to conduct research in Earth and Space Sciences that benefit both the nation and the world.
