Virtual Mission Operations Center (vMMOC)
A Scalable, Resilient, and Secure Hybrid Solution for Future and Legacy Space Missions
An innovative, technologically advanced hybrid solution that provides a platform for all future and legacy missions to host a shared, fully supported and secure, resilient Mission, Science, Instrument, and/or Navigation Operations Center.
Virtual Mission Operations Center (vMMOC) is a software defined On-Premise Cloud Solution that uses a hyper-converged infrastructure and enables a unified system, combining all of the traditional components of a datacenter into one system: Storage, Compute, Networking and Management.
vMMOC is scalable, resilient, secure, faster and more flexible than any single on-premise solution and leverages the power of Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure to enable efficiencies and flexibility.
The resiliency of the vMMOC solution focuses on providing Critical Mission Functions such as Telemetry & Command of spacecraft, Maneuver planning and execution, Orbit and Determinations for tracking of spacecraft and managing the capture of critical data.
Missions supported by the vMMOC include
Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE),
Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope,
Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO),
Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO),
Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO),
Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (SWIFT), and WIND, plus
Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS) and OSIRIS-Rex as backup Missions Operation Centers (MOCs).
Virtual Mission Operations Center (vMMOC) is managed by ETD’s
Software Engineering Division (Code 580)
